Thanksgiving outfit ideas

This post is all about the perfect Thanksgiving outfit ideas that will get you prepared for next week whether you’ll be in the sun or the snow. I honestly can’t believe Thanksgiving is less than a week away! I’m going to share with you two Thanksgiving outfit ideas because I’m sure I’m not the only one who is surprised at how quickly November flew by. Since it’s 70 in LA today but was snowing in New York yesterday, I’ll talk about how to style these outfits for different temperatures too.

Thanksgiving Outfit Ideas: Option I:

Why it works:

The dress and white boots outfit I’m wearing above really might be my Thanksgiving outfit. This works because it’s a great combination of something I would wear on a regular basis that just so happens to be family appropriate. This dress is super stylish and an appropriate length for the relatives. The slight cut outs keep it fun but not so fun that your grandmother is going to tell you to cover up and put a sweater on. What definitely keeps things fun are these white boots. At this point I’m sure you all know how much I love these white boots. They literally go with everything – shorts, jeans, dresses… you name it. The boots are a great way to add a little something fun while still being appropriate. The color and velvet material of the dress make it perfect for the holidays too.

Thanksgiving Outfit Ideas: Option II

Why it works:

Since Thanksgiving is so soon I didn’t want to only give yall one Thanksgiving outfit idea. Another super simple idea is a tweed skirt and fuzzy sweater combo. I’ve been seeing a lot of tweed minis lately and I’m really into the look. I actually just ordered one and haven’t opened it yet. I’ll report back with how it fits after I try it on. For this look, you need:

  • Tweed mini skirt – not so mini though that it isn’t appropriate for the family. The finger tip test is always helpful even if it gives me flashbacks of my private school days of only getting in trouble for being out of uniform
  • White/tan fuzzy mock turtleneck – I’ve already worn mine a handful of times and I got it a week ago. I think everyone should have a white fuzzy mock turtleneck in their wardrobe
  • White boots –  If you’re pulling this together last-minute obviously white knee boots might not be in your wardrobe so you can also wear this with black or tan suede style boots or OTKs

What if it’s cold?

Camel Colored Coats:

No look is complete without a jacket – even in LA. I’ve really been into camel colored coats right now and I’ve listed out my splurge and save options below. I think I found the best “save” find potentailly of the season. It’s the first jacket below and it’s so afforable (I’m not sure why it looks green in the photo but it’s not green). This is more on the light weight side though – don’t let the faux fur sleeve fool you. Here’s a photo of me wearing it on my Instagram so you can see what it looks like in person.

Textured Tights:

I’ll be celebrating Thanksgiving in Charlotte so I’m sure it’ll be colder than LA but not as cold as New York. Since the white boots come up to my knee, I should be ok without tights but if you’re going somewhere colder I would definitely add textured tights to this look. I know a lot of people hate on tights but I think if done correctly they can look super cool.

For the dress:

  • Black textured material/pattern that would play off of the details in the dress and be a cool contrast with the boots.
  • These polka dot ones are a cool option because the dress is velvet and isn’t a pattern so it won’t be too much.

For the skirt:

  • If the skirt is tweed, tone down how textured or how large the pattern is so it’s not too overwhelming.
  • Match the tights to the boots so pair black boots with black tights, etc
  • White tights could be super cool with the white boots but you can also do a navy or black if the white boots and white tights combo is too much.

Matching Hat + Gloves:

I would play off of the colors in your outfit but a lot of these are super cute and can be worn throughout the season too.

I hope these Thanksgiving outfit ideas are super helpful! I still can’t believe Thanksgiving is next week but I’m sure I’ll be wearing one of the two outfit options above. With all of the fires in California, there’s a lot to be thankful for this year.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
