Shimmery Smokey Eye How-To

I’m going to be sharing my shimmery smokey eye look with you today. It’s a fun way to shake up the traditional smokey eye and is great for Halloween too. I’ve always loved doing makeup and would always and still to this day do my friend’s eye makeup. I’m not quite sure why I didn’t get into beauty sooner since it does make so much sense but I’m excited to be doing it now. I love trying new techniques so I’m looking forward to expanding more in this category and share all of my favorite products with you.

Today’s look is focusing on a shimmery smokey eye. I love this look because it’s a lighter version than the smokey eye. The shimmery smokey eye look goes beyond just the eyes too. There’s a lot of highlight and additional shimmer going on as well. Let’s go through the steps for how to create this shimmery smokey eye look below.

How to create the shimmery smokey eye look:

FACE:

  1. Primer: The first thing I put on my face is ZO Skin Health primer. This is really lightweight and evens out my skin tone. It feels more like a tinted moisturizer and I love that it has sunscreen in it.
  2. Foundation: Ok so I usually hate foundation and end up feeling like it’s too heavy on my skin. I tried this foundation from 100% Pure and loved it! It’s all natural so I don’t feel bad about having it all over my face plus it’s the perfect finishing touch to the primer.
  3. Brows: Fiona Stiles Brow Sculpting WaxI’ve been using for such a long time and it’s so great. The brush that it comes with is perfect for shaping your brows the way you want them to look. The color of the wax is great too because it’s not too dark but just dark enough. When I do my brows, I like to brush them up then brush them to the sides while keeping the part of the brow closest to my nose brushed up for a more edgy look.

EYES:

  1. Shadow: Kylie Cosmetics Bronze Palette I’ve been using the and it is worth the hype. I’m a huge smokey eye girl so I’ve tried a lot of different palettes and what I love about this one is that most of them are matte (which is important if you’re adding in shimmery smokey eye touches) and each color is different. I feel like a lot of times you open an eye shadow palette and a few of the colors look super similar. I love that these are all unique and tend to work well on my skintone. I’ll do a YouTube tutorial to show you how I use this palette but I’ve highlighted the colors I use the most below.

2. Contour stick/eyeliner:  Mally contour stick  is one of the products I use for a natural, day-to-day look. I’ve been using this on my lower lash line as a lighter liner and it works so well. It might be one of my new must-haves

3. Eyeliner: While I’ve been using less eyeliner especially for this look I did use a few of my OG favorites. I’ve been using this Physicians Formula liner+lash serum for years. It’s liquid but the brush is amazing and is kind of more like a felt pen but not the awful kind that draws like a felt. The lines from this liner are perfect, smooth and so easy to use. It’s the best liner for a cat eye too. It’s really easy to control and doesn’t go anywhere. I used a little of this on the outer part of my lower lash line. I also used my favorite Chanel black eyeliner pencil. I only used a little on the outer half of my inside lash line.

3. Lashes: Lancome mascara I’ve been using this for a few months and it’s amazing! I absolutely love it. It gives your lashes a great curl and lasts for a really long time.

4. Shimmer: Now it’s time for the shimmery part of the shimmery smokey eye! I got this RMS shimmer from Riley Rose and am obsessed with it. First of all, Riley Rose is the cutest store in the entire world and is a beauty guru’s heaven. So this RMS eye shimmer is amazing. It goes on as a cream and isn’t glittery but is the perfect amount of bronze shimmer. I’ve been using it in my upper and lower crease of my eyes and along the lid crease. It’s such a game changer.

5. Powder: I usually feel the same way about powder as I do about foundation. I normally don’t like using a lot of it. I tried out this powder from Bare Minerals and I promise you it will make you camera ready. It makes a huge difference and it’s Bare Minerals so I don’t mind putting it on my skin.

6. Contour: I’ve been using this palette from Anastasia Beverly Hills and it’s one of my favorites. I basically just use the bronze color on my cheeks and on each side of my nose and call it a day.

7.  Highlight pen: This Dior highlight pen is basically a magic eraser. I don’t know about you but after I do my makeup I tend to get makeup in places of my face where it shouldn’t be. This pen is perfect for the clean up stage. I use it on my brow bones to help tame any crazy shimmery smokey eye and help the look pop. I also use this down the center of my nose to help add definition. You can use this as full on highlighter too but I just do a few key touch up spots.

8. Highlight: Since this is a shimmery smokey eye how to it only makes sense to bring some shimmer to the face as well. I used this highlighter from Stella and I love it.

LIPS:

9. Lip liner: I used this lip liner from Bare Minerals and I love how pointy the tip is. It’s great for overlining and I love the color. When I use lip liner, I use it as an all over color and like to color the entire lips in, not just the outline.

10. Liquid lipstick: This color from Urban Decay is a perfect finishing touch. I just used a little bit of this to bring the color together and add a little shimmer.
