Yves Saint Laurent to Saint Laurent Paris
Is YSL getting rid of the Y? Yes, come fall Yves Saint Laurent is changing their name to Saint Laurent Paris (NYMag). According to WWD, YSL’s new creative director Hedi Slimane is implementing some major branding changes. While I am unsure of the implications the name change will have on the already well-established YSL brand, I am not quick to judge Slimane ‘s decision quite yet. It is definitely a bold move but I am anxious to see what Hedi Slimane has in mind. It does make me wonder what will happen to the YSL clutch? (It was definitely the clutch of the season).
Come to think of it mostly all of Yves Saint Laurent’s products focus on either the Y or the YSL logo. Tampering with an already well established brand identity is a bold move and I am curious to see how the transition is going to be executed. With that being said I am ecstatic that Hedi Slimane will be designing from Los Angeles. (Sources: NYMag and WWD).
